Benzophenone and benzotriazole chemistries are traditional UV stabilizers, characterized as absorbers. The protection mechanism of UV absorbers is based on absorbing the harmful UV radiation then dissipating without leading to photo-oxidation (i.e. dissipation as heat). 3V Absorbers can be used in a variety of polymers, including polypropylene, polyethylene, polystyrene, nylon, PVC, PET and others, and can be used alone or in combination with other UV stabilizers, i.e. HALS.
Benzophenones absorb over the wavelength range from 260 to 350 nm. They do not absorb in the visible region. The material offers protection in both thick and thin sections and protection is optimized when used in unpigmented or lightly pigmented formulations. Both the UV protection and cost performance ratio of this product can be improved when used in combination with a hindered amine light stabilizer (HALS) such as UVASORB HA 88. This is especially true when stabilizing thin sections.
Benzotriazoles offer high and broad absorption ranges from 270 to 400 nm and are compatible with a broad range of polymer systems and additives. They are effective in preventing Gloss reduction, Cracking, Blistering, Color change. Both the UV protection and cost performance ratio of this product can be improved when used in combination with a hindered amine light stabilizer (HALS) such as UVASORB HA 88. This is especially true when stabilizing thin sections.
Bisphenylene derivatives; its high temperature stability make it especially suitable for engineering polymer such as polycarbonate and polyesters.
